Tabletop World Building of the Week: Blacksmith

Yoko the Psycho is hanging out with her Firestarter at Tabletop World's Blacksmith.

Its a great kit... and quite sturdy!  I dropped one of the completed sections from three feet... it landed awkwardly and broke off a small area in three pieces.  The resin material took glue very well and the repair was seamless... not even requiring touch up paint...whew!

I had a lot of fun with the paint here and was able to practice some particle effects with the fire and some murky liquid depths with the quenching barrel.

The chimney top was also pretty cool playing with corrosion using GW Technicals.  Now that I've had a little practice I like the effect.

There was liberal use of Secret Weapon Washes as usual on these... they really are the secret ingredient that makes these paint up fast.

At the bottom you can see the completed building in its disassembled state... ready for storage.  It all fits together very snugly on the table and does not wobble with use... I especially like how the workbench is molded to the exterior wall and is used to anchor the working floor of the forge are firmly into place.  No unhappy jostling issues!

Happy painting!

  1. I am amazed at the speed at which you are outputting these. I think it would take me a week just to paint one section! 1000 bonus points for the templar cross :).

  2. Thanks Greg! They are a joy to work on! I'm a bulk painter at heart so its easier for me to paint in quantity than to turn out singles. The Templar cross is actually a molded detail so doesn't even slow down the production! I was pretty jazzed at the fireplace... its very deep and was really easy to get the fire glow to pop. I have located four more buildings so... zoom zoom zooming onwards. Now I'd really like to find a cobblestone game surface mat. Zuzzy has one in development that would work well but I have no idea on the eta of that... any alternate suggestions?

You just missed the 20% sale. I don't know if those blocks are a bit too wide for you. I think that is more a roman/greek type setup.

Outside of that, I think there are some Mat companies which might do a cobblestone style, but I have to admit I haven't really been looking. I'll keep an eye out! And yes that fireplace is awesome!

  3. Thanks again! The Secret Weapon Tiles are a bit more regularly square than I'm looking at for this project but just might be useful for another one... so its a win! Plus I'm looking at the Secret Weapon vehicle to go with the Jailbirds ;) If you see some other options on your web travels drop me a note yar!
