Mahaleezariah, Lust Elf Matriarch

Mahaleezariah, Lust Elf Matriarch is a medium large model with a lot of fiddly bits.

I love the concept of the model but the most commonly used poses emphasized the weaknesses inherent in the joins for the numerous claws and the two 'body bag' sleeve/skirt accessory panels so I shifted a few things around and ended up with a pose that was stable enough for game-play and even survived a couple of inevitable drop events!

Shown here as a WiP with a WiP of Varseesh the Venomous for a sense of scale.

Among the swaps was the addition of a weighted base which makes her much more stable.  The Body Bag skirts are huge sails that catch the slightest breeze and are also handling obstacles for a figure intended to be used as a game piece so I changed the contact point on the back of the model and brought them closer in to the body and tilted them to imply a swishing motion.

The claw array was also realigned with a pair out front and another pair arching over her shoulders.  The front pair is attached to the main sword hands as well as the torso while the shoulder pair is glues to the horns making a stable point to grip the model by for moving it around the tabletop.
Moving the body bag skirt involved a little greenstuff to make the new attachment points and gluing the two panels together to improve stability and to present a long, continuous,  wall of body bags.

For colors... I'm still sorting out a direction for the lust elves... I've done a lot of them in red schemes but thought I'd give the Matriarch a purple panoply to mark her as special... as if her size alone would not do that!  I've also retained this bright greenish hair that I used for many of the Blood Vestals.  I'm an anime fan and it shows a bit!

The purple was Witch Purple (Reaper) with Pure White added to it for layering and highlights.
The Green was Verdigris (Secret Weapon) a wash of Green Wash (Secret Weapon) and re-application of Verdigris.
Varseesh the Venomous (SF ver.) WiP for scale again. This time she's showing off a pair of 3D printed Dog Houses from the Rampage Lost Islands Kickstarter.

Next on the list, finish up Varseesh and knock out a small pile of 3D printed terrain for the Kingdom Death campaign.

Star Saga Doors

Ok, I'm reasonably certain this finishes off the Star Saga Kickstarter Wave 1... its always nice to wrap up before the next wave hits but that so rarely happens!

Once I got into the swing of painting these I started thinking about fun times playing Borderlands... and the very cool art style they used for that game.  I ended up painting in that direction...  not quite as exaggerated as the Borderlands stuff but certainly leaning that way.
I had a lot of help from the decals put out by Thor Miniatures.  These are the best water-slide transfers that I've used in terms of ease of application.  Just a little dip in the water and they are eager to slide off the backing sheet.

These decals are from the District 9 set except the bio scanners on some of the large doors came from a miniature eye set.

A couple of Star Saga minis for scale with the doors.  You can see the color stripes on the doors are the same as the navigation stripe colors on the bases of these models.  I actually used a third color of navigation stripe on a few of the models but elected to limit the doors themselves to two colors.

The Borderlands theme elements are visible in the gray-green lining and the patchy edge highlights.  There is also a little targeted dry-brush on some of the panels to tie everything together without doing a full up dry-brush.... just adding some texture.

All the doors set up with some game tiles.

I just got a big shipment from Raging Heroes which looks like the final pile of minis from the TGG2 Kickstarter including the super amazing Altar of the Succubi!

I've got a couple of Lust Elves on the painting table at the moment which should get me in the right frame of mind!
