A Tale of Two Ravens part 2. and some TGG 2 freebies

Raven the Chainbreaker.  Iconic Freedom fighter of the Jailbirds.  This model is in a great pose that such screams rage and rebellion.

Here they are in both scales... heroic 28mm and 54 mm.

I've depicted her armed with silver ammunition and blessed guns thinking that she is the best, and possibly last, line against the Kurganov Werewolves that hunt the elusive rebel Jailbirds.
In 28mm she'll take the field mostly against KST (Kurganov Storm Troopers) in my adaptaion.  She'll have bonuses against the KST (Particularly against werewolves) and will, of course, have a price on her head that would make her joining a Jailbirds Division unit in KST service impossible.

She is wearing Prison Pride Orange and appears as the Bloody Red Banner of Revolution itself.

The models come in 4 parts and this version is resin.
The 54 mm version was a lot of fun and allowed me to more easily see some of the details that I might have missed on the 28... like the little smiley face button and ribbon or the boot straps that are mixed in with the rags around her legs.
Next on deck are a couple of metal version Jailbird Division LT Parkers and something from Mantic's Abyssal Dwarf Army.

Lastly a couple more of the freebies from the TGG2 Kickstarter!

Based for Mordheim is Scout Celenia who will also often serve as a vampire hunter both in Mordheim and in Frostgrave.  With her is the mascot Tobias although this one is intended for use with the SF version of the Sisters of Eternal Mercy.

Scout Celenia has an awful lot of armor for a scout so I chalk it up to the vampire problem... and trimmed her with a little green just to be kind of scout-y...  I like the red blaze in the middle of her abdomen and she'll have that in common with the rest of her order.

Harry the Baby Hippo on steroids and A Tale of Two Ravens WiP

 Raging Heroes makes beautiful stuff!

Of course it is tiny... as a friend of mine recently said... "These things are smaller than your thumb!"

But that isn't always the case.

During the Toughest Girls in the Galaxy I (TGG1) Kickstarter several models, primarily the mascots and the freedom fighter, had larger versions available.

Here is Harry the Baby Hippo!  Jailbirds mascot.

Shown here compared to Punky and to the Kurganova (KST) mascot Charlie.  Charlie is not intimidated... really!

The model was pretty easy on cleaning, although that is not always the case with the larger models... I just think Harry is a forgiving sculpt in that regard.

The base was worked up with white pumice.  I think I prefer it to gray pumice because it seems to be more adhesive.  The gray stuff is difficult to place whereas the white was actually a bit sticky.

In this scale the model really sings.  It already was cute and filled with a mischievous personality but now more details could be worked in... like the cans of ZoT!  in two sizes.. ZoT xxx and ZoT xXx Magnum!

In the small versions of Harry I saw these as beer cans being delivered but at this scale Harry seems to be collecting the cans for recycling... as they are all popped open...

In the field I think these are more likely to be energy drinks than beer so they are filled with a radioactive green color liquid!

Harry is a favorite of the Lulus and can often be seen toting stuffed toys and colorful buttons or badges for their amusement.

In this scale the buttons have plenty of space for designs or even lettering.

The base also sports an old pipe with some flowers growing out of it... the pipe being a bit of brass tube and the flowers from Army Painter Meadow Flowers.

A fun bunch of buttons and toys and the ubiquitous ZoT xxx!

Also in the larger scale, not the same larger scale, is Raven the Chainbreaker the Jailbirds Freedom Fighter.

I'm going to do these two at the same time in hope that the larger scale model will inspire me to do additional stuff with the regular size version.

More of that later!

Its going to be a busy couple of weeks so I'll see you sometime around the middle of the month!

Sky Captain Drusilla and Ayanami Rei WiP

Sky Captain Drusilla is the Kickstarter only commander of the Iron Empire's Jet Girls.  I wanted to maintain the IE color scheme but lean towards a Rocketeer style look.  To this end I went with raw leather flight harness, gloves, boots, and mask/cap.

I really like the retro sci-fi style of this model.

While painting I opted for a darker sepia color for shading but think I'll go back to a lighter shade for the rest of the set as the sepia tended more into brown than into yellow and is a bit too much contrast.

I may go back and add some powder work around the flight stem and on the base but I'd like to do the unit all together for that.  I'm also still pondering adding some faction/unit markings to the flight harness and/or mask.
Here is Drusilla next to a 1/4 scale Ayanami Rei.  Rei is coming along a bit more slowly than I had anticipated mostly due to additional drying and layers needed to get even coverage over large areas.  She's close but it will be a couple more days before she can join the rest of the cast in the Living Room display case.

We've been a bit amok collecting Anime Figure Models and have to rotate them to get good displays.  At the moment we're running small Evangelion, Madoka Magika, Steins Gate, Lucky Star, and K-ON displays.  We usually have 4 full curios running but for this move we're just running one curio and two built in half curios.  I'd like to get Soul Eater up but those are still lost in the big room of boxes.

Picking up the brush again

I've finally unearthed enough stuff and set up a painting space!  I was kind of pushed into it by the arrival of  Raging Heroes Wave 1 of the TGG Kickstarter.  The friendly folks at Raging Heroes held my order for me while I moved... ( which naturally occurred at the very moment the first wave was released!) and sent them out to me once I got into my new digs.  They were certainly worth the wait!

I set to work on some Iron Empire Heroines, Mortaria Noctis and Vera Krabenhoft. The fist is an ultra cool hit woman/sniper and the second is the faction Standard Bearer.

I jumped on Mortaria first because I want to add her to the minis I'm building in the Serene Dawn game I've been tinkering on.  With two heads I get a couple of deadly eNV Zombie infiltrator/snipers to add to the ones I have from the first Reaper Bones KS!

They clean up easily as is typical of the RH offerings.  They are much more petite and a little taller than GW.  Each of these came with an alternate head... a helmed neo Prussian with a mask and an un-helmeted version.

Vera without a hat.   I had to pause and furiously scribble up some background so I could gel on some iconography (a highly stylized ankh for the faction symbol) and ended up creating a number system and a format for an Egyptian flavored script... fun fun!

Vera from the rear.  this is a fun pose full of motion but could be modified easily to get some variation in pose.  The resin material is very nice and a has a little bit of flex to it so the minis are not very brittle in spite of the fine proportions.

I did the basic work a big batch of Trenchwork bases from Secret Weapon just to get a little paint on the brush and get me in the right frame of mind... I'm gonna need to get some more of these.  I like how waterlogged the wood looks here.  A little dust/dirt/mud and some scraggly vegetation will see them off.

... and then this happened!  Ayanami Rei in 1/4 scale from Evangelion.  I found this monster at the Mandarake in Akiba, Tokyo.  Om nom nom nom!  of course... I still haven't located my airbrush...grrr!

Back to box safari... be very very quiet....
